While classic rye whiskeys are celebrated for their sharp, spicy kick, WhistlePig Old World Rye Aged 12 Years takes the grain on a luxurious, continental journey. Inspired by the legendary grand-cru finishing techniques of Scotch whisky makers, WhistlePig’s master blenders took a mature, robust 12-year-old straight rye and finished it in three distinct European wine casks. The result is a highly decorated, incredibly smooth masterpiece that softens rye’s natural heat with velvety dessert-wine richness.

The Art of the European Cask Finish

To achieve the perfect structural balance, the whiskey is aged separately in three types of premier European casks before being married together in a very precise ratio:

• 63% Madeira Casks: Adds beautiful tropical fruit, dark honey, and a rich, toasted-oak depth.

• 30% Sauternes Casks: Infuses delicate floral aromas, bright apricot, honeysuckle, and stone-fruit sweetness.

• 7% Port Casks: Imparts a deep, ruby hue alongside dark jammy berries, plum, and red fruit complexity.

By keeping the proof at an elegant 86 proof, the delicate, sweet fruit notes of the wine casks are allowed to sing alongside the underlying rye pepper.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Intensely sweet and complex. Aromas of ripe red berries, caramel, and vanilla custard are balanced by warm baking spices, orange peel, and a distinct floral honey note.

• Palate: Unbelievably smooth and velvety. Forward notes of dark chocolate, dried apricots, plums, and honey are met mid-palate by a gentle, warming wave of cinnamon, clove, and black pepper.

• Finish: Long, sweet, and dry. The rich dark-fruit sugars slowly yield to a lingering, clean finish of oak tannins, winter spices, and dark chocolate.
